Apple will almost certainly hold its annual iPhone launch in September this year, with the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max (which may end up being called the iPhone 15 Ultra) set to succeed the company’s iPhone 14 lineup. .

Apple may also reveal an iPhone 15 Plus in September, continuing the legacy of last year’s iPhone 14 Plus, though that phone will likely offer the same performance, display and camera credentials as its standard sibling.

We’ve detailed the iPhone 15’s expected release date, iPhone 15 specs, and iPhone 15 screen size elsewhere on TechRadar, but in this guide, we break down the rumored design updates aimed at each new iPhone model. iPhones.

Leaks surrounding the standard iPhone 15s design hint at some notable differences between Apple’s upcoming vanilla iPhone and the base iPhone 14.

Chief among the design rumors is the suggestion that all four iPhone 15 models will have slightly curved edgeswhich means that the iPhone 15 may look more like the iPhone 11 compared to the iPhone 14, which sports a linear aesthetic similar to the iPhone 12 AND iPhone 13.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are also apparently getting a new camera bump, which is a rumor that has been further confirmed by unofficial renders of the iPhone, based on the case specs (see the 9to5Mac render above).

Even the standard iPhone 15 looks set to inherit a key design feature from the iPhone 14 Pro. According to the same Weibo user, who previously correctly leaked the existence of the yellow iPhone 14, the iPhone 15 will come with an iPhone 14 Pro-style textured matte glass back panel, instead of the traditional glossy back panel used by its predecessor.

Presumably, Apple is making this change to give its upcoming standard model a more premium look, though the move could also hint at several rear panel changes for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

On the port front, the iPhone 15 is expected to have a USB-C charging port instead of the Lightning port on the iPhone 14s (which has been a staple of every iPhone since iPhone 5). The EU has told Apple it must add USB-C charging ports to iPhones from 2024, but all signs point to the company adopting the new charging standard in 2023.

Leaked iPhone 15 mockups obtained by MacRumors (below) confirm that suggestion, as do those rumors hinting at the phone’s curved edges.

It appears that the dimensions of the standard iPhone 15 phones will be roughly the same as their iPhone 14 equivalents although, as mentioned, there will be some slight variations in the size of the camera bumps. For reference, the iPhone 14 measures 71.5 x 146.7 x 7.8mm and weighs 172g, while the iPhone 14 Plus measures 78.1 x 160.8 x 7.8mm and weighs 203g.

It’s also worth noting that Apple may be preparing to switch to eSIM in countries outside the US for the iPhone 15, with eSIM reportedly making its way to the next generation of Apple’s top iPhones in France.

This is great news for all potential iPhone 15 buyers outside the US. Apple typically sells the same iPhone models across much of Europe, which means the SIM-free iPhone 15 could also arrive in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and many other countries.

The design of the iPhone 15 Pro

  • Rounded edges, noisy titanium frame

  • It may get thinner bezels than the iPhone 14 Pro

  • There were rumors of solid-state buttons, but now that’s unlikely

As with the standard iPhone 15, we’d expect the iPhone 15 Pro to be similar in size and weight to its predecessor, i.e. 147.5 x 71.5 x 7.85mm and 206g, but it could still feel like a very different.

We have heard from multiple sources, for example, that both iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max may have titanium sideswhich would make them stronger and lighter than currently available stainless steel-framed iPhones.

Both devices are also expected to have rounded rear edges, as opposed to the sharply angled sides of the iPhone 14 Pro. Apple was reportedly unsure about implementing this design change for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, but Leaked iPhone 15 Pro renders (below) which have since surfaced showing these curved sides, adding credibility to the rumor.

We have also heard that the iPhone 15 Pro will have thinner bezels than iPhone 14 Pro which would be an impressive feat on Apple’s part, given that the latter’s bezels are already noticeably thin.

THE The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra were said to have solid state volume and power buttonsalso, but Apple analysts later poured water on those claims. Leaks had suggested that these buttons would use haptic vibrations to simulate the sensation of being touched, despite not actually moving, but this technology is now expected to debut on the iPhone 16 line.

And finally, as with the standard iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Pro is expected to feature a USB-C charging port instead of Apple’s Lightning port.

iPhone 15 Pro Max design

  • It will share design features with the iPhone 15 Pro

  • …although it will be bigger and its superior camera could influence the design

  • It is said to be available in only one color

The iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 15 Ultra, as it might be called, will likely benefit from all the same design updates as its younger sibling. That means we can expect curved edges, a titanium frame, super slim bezels, and a USB-C port.

We expected the phone to maintain the same dimensions as its predecessor, meaning the iPhone 15 Pro Max will likely measure around 77.6 x 160.7 x 7.85mm. The only design differences between the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, therefore, will surely come from the latter’s supposedly superior camera features.

For example, we’ve heard that the iPhone 15 Pro Max could get a telephoto lens with a variable zoom lens of the type rumored to be found on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, as well as the largest primary sensor ever used in an iPhone.

None of these features appear intended for the iPhone 15 Pro, which means that the camera array on the iPhone 15 Pro Max will likely be arranged a little differently. This superior camera technology will definitely make the phone heavier even than its predecessor which weighs 240g.

We’ve also heard that the iPhone 15 Pro Max may have a dual-lens front-facing camera, with the same source saying the phone may only come in the same silver color shade as the Apple Watch Ultra if indeed it ends up being called iPhone 15 Ultra.
